About Me
I'm a UVU student.
I plan to graduate May 2017.
I have a baby at home and don't plan to work until she is older. This internship was for exposure to the deaf community and personal experience.
Then hopefully with that experience and those connections I will be able to work in the deaf community in the future.
My interests are: ASL, Photography, dancing, playing games with family & friends and making life enjoyable!

Internship:
Sego Lily Center For The Abused Deaf
Spring Semester
January - April 2017
While interning for Sego Lily I was able to experience working directly with their advocates. I signed their confidentiality forms and therefore I was able to read through their paperwork on visits with different clients.
Sego Lily had amazing opportunities for training. One of those opportunities was Utah's Rape Advocacy training. This consisted of about 40 hours of class time and in that training you are taught by several different experts in the field. I was also given personal tours of a few of their locations; a women's shelter in downtown Salt Lake and the courthouse.
I also had the opportunity to witness one of their advocates present at a police station in Sandy. During this presentation, I was able to witness her talk about a training they offer officers to help prepare them to work with deaf victims.
I will also be witnessing a teen deaf group session at a deaf school, and a court hearing for a deaf victim before I am finished with my internship. I will also be helping gather donations for their big event in September. I'm really grateful for Sego Lily and the many opportunities they have given me.
